The Walking Dead 02x01 - ‘What Lies Ahead’
After a middling yet entertaining first season that was marred by clunky dialogue and pacing problems, The Walking Dead is back for another year and it feels… a bit better. The zombies are still gross (see pic) and the characters one dimensional, but it feels like the writers are taking strides to change this.
Beaten wife character is still sad her husband beat her but also now she is pretty sad her dumb child went missing. Frank Grimes is still struggling with his place as the group’s leader but now he’s doing it with more depth by talking about it with Jesus Christ. Racist guy seems like he isn’t racist any more. Annoying kids are still annoying. Andrea (the blonde one) is real sad she didn’t get to kill herself in the explosion at the CDC (lol) but is proving to be one of the most interesting of the group. Frank Grime’s wife is showing a bit of backbone too. It looks like by the end of this season these will be real characters we might actually care about so when one is inevitably picked off by a zombie we could shed a few tears.
As a huge fan of the comic this series has been a bit of a let down, but judging from this episode it really looks set to improve and tell some actual interesting stories against this zombie backdrop. Have some faith nerds.
