Dexter 06x07 ‐ ‘Nebraska’
Okay so that’s about the funniest I could find in terms of screencaps for this week’s episode of Dexter.
‘Nebraska’ was a weird interlude for this season. Dropped pretty much at the season’s midpoint, it’s clearly intended to inject a little bit of forward momentum and fun back into the show, with the return of both Dexter’s brother Brian, and Jonah, the Trinity Killer’s son, who has now killed his family and made it look like it was Trinity (though we learn that he only killed his mother and can’t deal with the grief, trying to provoke Dexter into killing him). I was actually looking forward to this episode, as stupid as the idea of bringing back these characters was. But it’s a shame they didn’t pull it off as well as they might have. Brian as a facet of Dexter’s imagination was done in a kinda haphazard way, and we were given very little as far as Jonah goes to make us that interested. I would’ve almost preferred if they dragged it out until next episode, such is the incredible dullness of the Doomsday Killers plotline (now neatly abbreviated to ‘DDK’, as if the writer’s were getting annoyed with writing Doomsday Killers). Also this episode was an interlude for the season because Dexter’s basically decides to behave like a maniac (who is suddenly great at picking up attractive young women?). I get that it’s a road trip episode, and the return of Brian was meant to signify Dexter departing from his moral code a little, but the whole driving‐while‐shooting scene was really strange. And it reminded me of that episode from Six Feet Under where (SPOILERS) David is carjacked and forced to smoke crack.
That said, this episode wasn’t as terrible as some have been this season, and for that, I am thankful. Brian was a nice, sinister presence, and it’s unfortunate that he’ll be gone again. And Quinn and Debra had a fairly good scene together in which they reached closure on their relationship. All in all it was fairly innocuous, and a bit of fun. It’s just a shame we’ll be back to ‘DDK’ rubbish next week.
LaGuerta Watch: an appearance for 1 minute 40 second this week is a slight improvement for her. Still so happy with this development.
